Kinsella Hall ID Card Checks

Blog post text:

The Library has received feedback that unauthorised users have been tailgating into Kinsella Hall, taking up valuable study spaces that would otherwise be used by current students preparing for upcoming exams. To deal with this situation, and to ease pressure on Kinsella Hall, the Library has taken the following measures:

  • Extended opening hours have been introduced in the Hamilton Library on Saturday and Sunday evenings to 11pm. Full details available on the Hamilton Library opening hours webpage.
  • Security personnel will perform ID card checks in Kinsella Hall on Saturday and Sunday evenings, when the problem of unauthorised access is at its most acute. Readers must have a valid physical Trinity staff or student ID card to enter or exit Kinsella Hall. The Trinity Live App is not an acceptable alternative, for reasons outlined below.

During overnight and weekend periods, when access to Kinsella Hall is via the external entrance on the Ussher Library Podium (near the glass pyramid), readers must have a valid Trinity ID card to enter and exit Kinsella Hall. This is because the card reader devices at the external door are designed to read current Trinity ID cards only. They cannot read the Trinity Live App. Security personal checking ID cards will not accept the Trinity Live App in lieu of a valid Trinity ID card.

The requirement to hold a valid Trinity student ID card is outlined on the Library Regulations webpage, and aligns with the University’s policy regarding student ID cards, which states: “Always carry your Trinity student ID card while on college campus”.

We thank all readers for their cooperation and wish those of you preparing for exams the very best!
